Smallmouth Bass

Lake Erie is recognized as the world's best smallmouth bass fishery, providing unequalled opportunities for limit catches and trophy bronzebacks. Aboard Chante Charters, our bass angling guests catch all bass either casting, drifting and/or fishing live bait. Erie's giant smallmouths are hard-fighting, aerial sportfish that can test any angler's skills. Summer offers great bass angling, but the prime time for truly "monster bass" is from late August until mid-October.
Without a doubt, both early and late in the season, live bait is the absolute best approach to fishing Lake Erie smallmouth bass. In mid-summer, however, rattlebaits, crankbaits, spinners, tube jigs, spinnerbaits, even plastic worms will catch plenty of bass in the shallow waters of Lake Erie's Western Basin. In deeper areas - off the Pelee Islands, for example - jigging spoons, weighted live-bait rigs and larger twistertail & tube jigs get the nod.
